Whilst staying in Bangkok this month, I undertook the five-day general course in traditional Thai Massage taught by the Wat Pho school. This is the original school for Thai massage, where all the original inscriptions and teachings from the past 2,000 years have been gathered together at this ancient royal temple as a form of university library.
The teaching was excellent. From an introduction to the history and nature of traditional Thai medicine through the ten primary energy lines in the body and the role of accupressure in healing, the course developed in a very practical and hands-on manner. This covered all the main techniques for traditional Thai massage with the recipient lying on their back, side, front and sitting. It includes pressure points, spreading touch and stretching to rebalance the body winds (energies) and generate healing.
The course is examined and accredited by the Thai Ministry of Education and leads to a Certificate.
A Thai massage service is now available for men and women in Keswick, Cumbria.
