Bali is a beautiful Indonesian island in the Indian Ocean. With it's diamond shape and it's location just south of the equator, it has been a tourist destination for more than 30 years. Measuring around 65 kms from north to south and 100 kms from east to west, the island is remarkably small (although the resident population is over 3 million). To the south there are spectacular and world famous beaches linking Kuta, Legian and Seminyak. The high-rolling surf attracts surf-boarders from around the world. To the north and east, the beautiful coral seas attract divers in equal measure. The central volcanic ridge rises to over 3,000 metres in a series of spectacular peaks, calderas and caldera lakes. The road system, with thousands of motorbikes and slow-moving trucks, makes for sedentary travel through the lush green rice paddy terraces. The Hindu culture is evident everywhere in the thousands of temples, the shrines in every house, and the ever-present offerings on every road, doorway and entrance.
